The famous espresso martini cocktail is one of the most popular cocktails around. For a long time this cocktail did not get the attention it deserves for a long time. The fact that this drink is based on vodka did not help al all. But things are changing again. More and more respectful cocktail bars and restaurant are again adding the espresso martini to their menus.

This drink is can be considered as one of the classic cocktails and is based on kahlua and vodka. This cocktail is considered as a “dangerous” one. It’s so easy to have a little too much of it…

The story goes that the espresso martini was invented in Soho in London by the famous bartender Dick Bradsell. He prepared it as a special request from a famous top model who asked for ‘a cocktail that wakes me up and then fucks me up’. The identity of the super model was never revealed. Some say it was Kate Moss, others say it was Naomi Campbell but the truth never came out. Did you know that the cocktail first had another name? It was called the pharmaceutical stimulant. Don’t really know where that came from.

The cocktail itself tastes creamy and is quite rich in taste. You hardly notice the alcohol in it which makes it a sneaky one. It combines some sweetness thanks to the kahlua with a rather deep taste from the coffee. The vodka adds a little kick and turns it into a quite strong cocktail although it does not taste strong at all.  Some people describe it as rich and refreshing, bitter and sweet in the same time.
