The cactus pear is also called cactus fig or prickly pear is the fruit of the cactus plant which is native to the Americas. It is often used in Mexican and Central American cuisine. Before using the cactus pear in cocktails or other dishes, the pear must be peeled to remove the prickly spines. The seeds of the prickly pear are edible but can be hard at times. The taste of the flesh can be described as a rougher watermelon. When you want to use the juice of the cactus fig in a cocktail, you can put the peeled cactus figs in a blender and sieve out the seeds. The juice produced by cactus pears is thick red.
