Glass: Highball or Hurricane glass

• 4 cl Vodka (1.35 oz)

• 2 cl Peach schnapps (0.7 oz)

• 4 cl Orange juice (1.35 oz)

• 4 cl Cranberry juice (1.35 oz)

• Ice cubes

• Garnish: Orange slice and/or maraschino cherry (optional)

Common ratio: 2 : 1 : 1 : 1

Sex on the Beach Instructions (Step-by-Step)

1. Fill a highball or hurricane glass with ice.

2. Pour in the vodka and peach schnapps.

3. Add the orange juice and cranberry juice.

4. Stir gently to combine while keeping the layered color effect slightly visible.

5. Garnish with an orange slice and/or cherry if desired.

6. Serve immediately while cold.

History of the Sex on the Beach Cocktail

The Sex on the Beach cocktail originated in Florida in the mid-1980s, during a time when fruit-forward vodka drinks were becoming extremely popular in the United States.

The most widely accepted story credits Ted Pizio, a bartender in Fort Lauderdale, who created the drink to help promote peach schnapps, which had just been distributed nationally by a major liquor company.

To attract attention from spring break crowds, he reportedly named the drink after what tourists came to Florida for:
“sex and the beach.”

The bold name, bright colors, and easy-drinking flavor quickly made the cocktail a hit, and it spread rapidly through:

• Beach bars

• Nightclubs

• Cruise ships

• All-inclusive resorts

By the 1990s, Sex on the Beach had become one of the most ordered cocktails worldwide and is now listed as an official IBA cocktail under the Contemporary Classics category.
